Biography

I am the lead for the Lichen Sclerosus Priority Setting Partnership (PSP).   I studied at the University of Nottingham Medical School, Nottingham, U.K., and completed a BMedSci degree in 2002 and BMBS degree in 2004. My general medical training was undertaken at Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. In 2008, I commenced dermatology specialist training on the East Midlands rotation, and subsequently took several years out of my registrar training program to pursue a career in academic dermatology. I have a research interest in trial methodology, especially for vulval skin disorders and rare conditions; diagnostic criteria development; and selecting suitable outcome measures for clinical trials and clinical practice.   I was awarded a National Institute for Health Research Doctoral Research Fellowship in 2012 to complete a program of clinical research into vulvovaginal erosive lichen planus. This culminated in the development and delivery of a multicentre, pilot, randomized controlled trial looking at second line treatment for people with vulval erosive lichen planus resistant to topical therapy (the ‘hELP Trial’). I was awarded a PhD in 2014.  My current program of research, which is being run alongside clinical practice, is leading a PSP in lichen sclerosis and developing an international initiative to agree core outcome sets for vulval disorders. I will complete my dermatology training in early 2018 and subsequently aim to take a clinical academic position.  I am a Fellow of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease, and also a trainee representative on the British Society for the Study of Vulval Disease Executive Council.   In my spare time I look after my two young children and play bad tennis, something which I one day hope to improve.
